2013, PWS, Conference, Cambridge, Prader-Willi Syndrome, IPWSO, 8th, international, 2012 South, Pacific, PWS, Conference, Australasian, Australia, Sydney, New Zealand,
The PWSA (UK) in partnership with the University of Cambridge Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Group (headed by our President, Professor Tony Holland) warmly invite you to the 8th International PWS Conference which we are hosting in 2013. We will be putting together a great programme with all the latest research about PWS including sessions especially for scientists, researchers, care providers, teachers, and parents.
We also hope to organise an exciting social programme which will include post-conference tours for those wanting to see something of the UK after the conference. The venue for the conference is Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, one of the more modern Cambridge colleges. Cambridge, which is the second oldest University town in England (after Oxford) is a city full of charm and character. It is not far from London Stansted airport which has flights to many destinations. We will be providing travel advice as we get closer to the conference. If you want to be kept up to date with all our plans, please email jwaters@pwsa.co.uk and ask to be put on our emailing list, or check out our website at www.pwsa.co.uk
Parent Programme
We are just about to start planning our Parent Programme, which will run from Saturday 20th July - Sunday 21st July. We'd like to know what you would like to see included in the programme - topics, workshops, lectures - all ideas welcome! Please reply to jwaters@pwsa.co.uk if you would like to make some suggestions.
Scientific and Caregivers Programmes
With regard to our other programmes, the Scientific Programme will run from Thursday 18th July - Friday 19th July. We will shortly be making a Call for Abstracts.
The Professional Caregivers Programme, which is for those who provide care for people with PWS will also from Thursday 18th July - Friday 19th July. It will have four half-day sessions:
Results from the professional providers and caregivers conferences in 2008, 2009 and 2012
"Living"
"Work"
"Therapy"
Although programmes have a specific emphasis for particular groups of people (ie scientists, caregivers, parents), all programmes will be open to all who wish to attend -please note, however, that the Scientific Programme will be videostreamed to those who are not actually scientists.
Families with children under 16
Our main venue for the conference will be Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. However, the College has rules which do not allow children under 16 on the premises. We are therefore arranging for part of our family programme to be held at The Holiday Inn, Cambridge and families will also be based in nearby hotels. Please do NOT book direct with the Holiday Inn, as we have block-booked and are holding rooms for our delegates. These will be available for booking when registration opens.
Social programme
We are currently looking at options for outings for children and adults with PWS, as well as other tours and outings in the UK for delegates. We'll let you know as soon as these are confirmed.
There will be a Banquet (open to all aged 16 years and over) at the world-famous historical Kings College on Thursday evening (18th).
Registration
We are delighted to announce that the conference will be event-managed by The Conference People who will be handling an online registration system for us and developing a website with all the information you will need to know about the conference. Registration is planned to be open by January 2013, and we will email you with further details about registration and the website as soon as they become available.
We look forward very much to seeing you at the conference next year!
